Guillermo Cabrera Leiva was born in Cabaiguán, Cuba, in 1919, where he received his primary education in the Presbyterian School. He obtained his high school diploma at the Sancti-Spiritus Institute in 1939 and his Law Degree at the University of Habana in 1944, where he also Finished a doctorate in Social Sciences. From 1945 to 1947, he contributed articles to the newspaper El Mundo, of Havana. In 1947, he was enrolled in a course in International Relations at the University of Vermont, and in 1951, he obtained a Masters Degree from the Univerersity of Miami in Miami.
From 1952 to 1974, he served at the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, D.C., where he worked as a staff member at the Inter-American Commission of Human Rights. Since 1953, he has been writing articles and reports for the Diario Las Americas in Miami, Florida, as well as in Americas, the magazine of the OAS, and other magazines published in Latin America. In 1974, he obtained the "Miguel de Cervantes" Hispanic American Press Award given by the Government of Spain. In 2009, he published his first book, Páginas de historia, in Miami, Florida. He has been an active member in the U.S. Presbyterian Church and, together with his wife, Angela, have worked as teachers in the Sunday Schools of this denomination in Washington and Miami for many years.
